Mercedes Benz has deemed correctly to use the image of a mass murderer to promote their new car technology. Given the history of the company during the years immediately before, and during World War II in support of the Nazi regime, and their use of slave labor provided by the concentration camps established by the National Socialist dictatorship, this should not be surprising.
Che Guevara whose face has become, by some ironic twist of history, an icon of rebellion and "cool" was a cold blooded mass murderer whose crimes against the Cuban people have been well documented. He was a racist, homophobic, antisemitic and tyrannical killer who admitted in his own writing to his endless blood thirst. Che Guevara, just like Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini, should not be celebrated and exalted. Mass murderers belong in the cesspools of history, their images should not be used for anything else but to illustrate that evil has walked and held power among us.
While we respect Mercedes Benz's freedom of expression, we want to make sure that they understand that this "expression" is completely inappropriate, and has caused immense pain to the descendants of this mass murderer's victims.
Let's tell Mercedes Benz that it is NOT OK to exalt mass murderers today just as it was not OK in the 1930s and 1940s, and let's ask them to apologize to the survivors, and the descendants of the victims of Che Guevara.
Let's never forget!
