J.R. Teeter from Rochester, NY started this petition asking the Memorial Art Gallery to hold to its plan to install Tom Otterness' work in their sculpture garden despite opposition from animal rights groups. "Rochester deserves the best in art and culture. Tom Otterness is an exceptional artist recognized all over the world for his sculptures which are fun and interactive where visitors are often encouraged to climb and play on his work," Teeter wrote. Teeter's petition gained 57 supporters, and the sculptures were installed on schedule.

We want Tom Otterness to continue his work on the sculpture garden as the project was originally intended as his work is some of the best in his field recognized all over the world for his creativity and it is fundamentally unfair for someone to be judged soley on an act that took place over 40 years ago.

Rochester deserves the best in art and culture. Tom Otterness is an exceptional artist recognized all over the world for his sculptures which are fun and interactive where visitors are often encouraged to climb and play on his work.

The animal activists, Rochesterians Against Tom Otterness, have been removed from Facebook for the illegal theft of intellectual property. In plain talk they were using other people's essays or writings and editing them to prove their point. It would be as if I took your writings AGAINST atomic weapons and edited them so that you were FOR atomic weapons. If you're going to be an activist for a cause you gotta play by the rules and these people clearly are not being honest with the public and will do anything to advance their agenda.

This article is a really great nuanced discussion of the Tom Otterness controversy. Please repost and continue to share this change.org poll with others. This sculpture park with Mr. Otterness' work included was unanimously approved by many different groups of people including the MAG board of directors and community artists. We should want the best for Rochester and recognize that Mr. Otterness has apologized for his actions 30 years ago. And we should move on to make Rochester the best it can be! With the best art it can be!!!!

This YouTube link can be used as an example of Tom Otterness' public art work. It's important when addressing this issue to demonstrate what his work looks like and how much people enjoy it. Many of the people that are against Tom Otterness have never heard him speak or seen his work.
