Remove the ban on free publications at Meijer stores

Meijer has unilaterally banned all free publications at their stores, starting March 1, 2012. This includes the City Pulse, New Citizens Press, Greater Lansing Woman and more. More than 3,000 readers pick up their paper at Meijer and this move means that 3,000 people won't have access to public notices, community events and local news. Meijer prides itself on supporting Michigan businesses, products and foods. Why not locally owned publications?

There's also an unintended consequence of this... City Pulse is becoming the paper of record for local governments throughout the region and has public notices in every edition. By removing access for 3,000 readers, Meijer has effectively removed access to legal notices. For our seniors, low-income families and those who simply can't or won't buy a paper, Meijer's decision effectively blocks access to information.

Help us let them know that we expect better from our locally owned companies. Let Meijer know that as a customer, you appreciate picking up your free publications while you are spending your hard-earned funds at Meijer. Make sure Meijer knows that removing access to public information is a disservice to our community and they need to change their ways.

Excluding these publications is definitely NOT a service to your customersm You have served Michigan well, don't stop doing so.

I pick up City Pulse and New Citizens Press every time I shop at Meijer. The space in the entry way can't really be used for much else. People have come to expect this service, and it reflects poorly on Meijer to stop facilitating this local journalistic focus.

This paper is a welcomed public service you are denying. Your justification rings hollow.

I spend over $225/Week at the Okemos store and often pick up the City Pulse. I may shop at the nearby Krogers or D&W in Williamston if you make this silly move.
