Mayor Vincent Gray, Washington DC: Restore $7million to the homeless services budget for fiscal year 2013

    1. Petition by

      OBADIAH BLACK

      WASHINGTON, DC

If the 7 million dollars for homeless services is not restored for fy 2013:
Hundreds of homeless men and women will be without shelter because 50-75% of shelter beds in the city will be closed. These men and women will be thrown into the streets with no place to go in the hottest months of the year when death rates among homeless people can escalate.

I know what it's like to be homeless, especially with my three year old little girl. It sucks and the more you try to get out of it, the more problems you face...that's why I started my own petition for the state of Virginia...http://www.change.org/petitions/richmond-and-henrico-county-raise-the-ban-on-panhandling-and-solicitation-on-street-medians-and-sidewalks?

At any given time today in America, there are about half a million people who are "homeless" -- they don't have a “permanent, safe, decent, affordable place to live.” Around the world there are about 100 million homeless people, and many of them are women and children.

People are worthy of better treatment that to suffer as the homeless, unaided. AMERICA loves its people. Why don't its people?

This is important to me because I was born and raised in D.C. I now reside in Alexandria,Va. I was also homeless, (twice). I know what is needed and what needs to be done. Why are we ignoring the needs of those who need our help the most, the (homeless). I know I am not the only one that knows what is needed in D.C. to end this homeless epidemic. While homeless, I was blessed to put an organization together by the name of Provide, Inc. We are here to assist the homeless with their housing needs. We need all the help that we can get to put an end to this terrible, terrible problem. The Homeless need more than care, they need ACTION. D.C., it is still home to me, it's still home to my family and friends. Some of those people who are homeless, could also be some of your family, some of your friends. What about our homeless elderly, those with HIV/AIDS, and families. Homelessness, no one should be without a place to call home. I do believe and always will believe that "Housing Is A Human Right".

Please be part of the wise members of our government committed to make a difference to eliminate homelessness, especially among Veterans as set by both the VA's and HUD's example.

      Thank you.
