Keep Transit Affordable in Winnipeg!

many people who use transit are poor or low-income. if they could afford to have a vehicle, they wouldn't be taking public transit. councilour justin swandel suggested that transit prices be raised to .25 extra and the motion passed in a matter of hours! that's right HOURS-with little notice to transit users. to raise prices means that more and more people will have zero access to transportation and therefore, cannot fund a viable way to get to and from school and jobs-two things that better our society and once again, the rich will get richer, while the poor are getting poorer and drained of their resources. in the spirit of the occupy movement to put an end to corporate greed, i think that we all need to do our part and say no on hiked transit fares! so i am asking people to sign this petition to keep transit rates the way they are now and i am asking katz (the reverse robin hood) and swandel to find it in their hearts to change their minds! thank you!

I believe in the 5 cent increase each year to cover costs of maintenance and gas but I am not paying for a new system that I am never going to use. If this bill passes I am going to boycot transit and I will start driving my car. I find the transit service has been declining over the years and the price continues to go up. Most drives are unfriendly (there are a very few that are absolutely fantastic).

As a student with a limited budget who is concerned about carbon emissions and global warming, I don't understand why my city is taking steps to make public transit less affordable, when they should be taking steps to make it more affordable.

People who ride transit instead of driving a car help make the city more livable. Ideally, transit should be free, but I suppose that would be too progressive for City Council.

Citizens should not be forced to pay for the rapid transit corridor. I will never use the corridor and should not be penalized for riding the bus

I am signing because this transit fare increase will only hurt those who are trying to help the environment, trying to build a better Winnipeg, and those who are economically disadvantaged.
