Forbid Killing of Geese in Burns Park

    1. Petition by

      Scott White

      North Little Rock, AR

Shooting geese that have become unafraid of humans inside a public park is a violent and extreme means of population control when other humane options exist and have been successfully used by other parks, airports, and military installations.

This petition and public support helped convince the City of North Little Rock to cancel its planned 'hunt' of tame geese in our city park and implement a plan for humane control instead. They have asked all of us to raise $12K to cover half the $24K cost of the non-lethal plan. Please contribute. Thank you for your help in reaching this victory for the wildlife of Burns Park!

Hunting these animals down to drive them out of the park is NOT a humane solution. There are many other options and the city does not need to resort to this.

Killing these amazing animals who have chosen our area to live for the winter is cruel and inhumane. It turns me off of even visiting the park if the only solution the city can come up with is to kill these innocent animals. I have many happy memories of the park, but this will definitely prevent me from ever visiting it again. Planning the execution of these geese is a HUGE mistake and it's sickening that in this day and age the leaders of this city can only come up with a most barbaric way of taking care of this problem. Come on people...

I have to agree that we encouraged the geese to stay by feeding them and showing them no past aggression. They are beautiful birds and add to the magic of the park. But, if their numbers are becoming a nuisance then why not allow park visitors to let their dogs chase them away and work off some of their Beggin Strips!

I am sick about this! The geese have been somewhat domesticated. They are beautiful! They have made a home in the park because they feel safe. There has to be another way besides killing them. They are just sitting ducks.
