We the undersigned, welcome the opening of the first ever fully integrated reproductive centre, the Marie Stopes Clinic in Belfast.

We fully support the aims of the centre, to provide world class services including family planning, contraception, STI testing and treatment, HIV counselling, termination of pregnancy within legal limits and a 24-hour information, advice and ongoing support service.

We believe this to be a momentous development for women in Northern Ireland. For far too long, many women have been forced to travel to Britain and beyond to receive services that should always have been available at home.

It should be clear today that in Northern Ireland we as a society respect a woman's right to make her own decisions regarding sexual health and pregnancy, without judgement, guilt, opprobrium or blame.

We also wish the management and staff success in their endeavours to provide information and essential services for the women and men of Northern Ireland.

Because women should not have to be forced into anything they want to do, especially when it involves their body and something they will be forced to deal with for the rest of their lives. Babies should not be born into an environment where they were not welcomed or wanted, and the mother should not have to feel guilt for not wanting a child at that time in her life. A child should be born out of love and not because women are not at least given the option to abort. Women will continue to get abortions, whether it is in another country, or it's a backdoor abortion. The woman's safety should come first. And it should be her decision, and it should not be affected by outside parties, who will never be in this difficult position, and only protest because of ignorance to the subject.

All women should have freedom of choice. Men should not have controll of womens bodies as the patriarcal system here currently has.

I am furious that this clinic may now be closed and that women may only access terminations through the NHS so that politicians and the government can monitor and control a womans private choice over her own body. This is a disgrace in a so-called democracy, fetuses don't vote - women do!

The opening of this clinic is long overdue in Northern Ireland.
