Make your purchases cruelty-free

Why purchase cosmetics, body care products, and household cleaners that have been torturously tested on animals if you don't have to? For every product whose development involved the torture of living beings, there's a similar product from another company for which no animal was harmed, leaving us with no excuse for not making the compassionate choice.

Order and consult cruelty-free guides. Carry one of the pocket guides in your back pocket or purse when you head to the store. And most importantly, check the labels. Companies that don't test on animals want you to know that, so look for "not tested on animals," "cruelty free," or the Leaping Bunny rabbit logo.

When I started becoming more aware of animal issues, there was one mammoth corporation I learned about--and learned to watch out for and avoid--immediately: Procter & Gamble. In the world of unnecessary, cruel testing on animals, P&G is one...

I do this already and even go so far as not to donate to any charity that involves research using animals.  That covers a hell of a lot.

Ellen Degeneres is a wonderful voice for animals, but the one problem that I have is that she is also a spokesperson for Cover Girl Cosmetics, which is a P&G product and DOES test on animals.

I am working on writing a letter to Ellen to educate her about this fact and send her a cruelty free shopping guide. Her show is a big supporter of animals, and on the flip-side is also a huge advertiser of P&G's products.

You can't have it both ways. She can use her voice and support to get P&G to stop testing on animals. I am not sure that she is aware of their impact and the cruelty involved.
She is a huge help for the HSUS and Best Friends, but I don't think she has all of the information about Cover Girl.

Thanks for the list and the website links! It is a big help, and I've been using LeapingBunny.org for the last year, and the ASPCA list is a big help as well.

As a vegan, I feel strongly about the ethical and humane treatment of all living things. I believe every living thing on this planet deserves compassion and respect.

When I go shopping, I only buy products that have the humane seals on it or specifically says that it has not been tested on animals. After all, we are not only what we eat, we are what we use and buy as well.
