Purpose:

We, the undersigned demand that before cuts are made to education, health care, and social services that all members of congress take a 25% reduction in pay to help balance the budget and restore services.

We furthermore demand that  a law be drafted by Congressmen Kucinich and Paul, permentantly limiting the wages paid to members of congress to within no more than 20% Median Single Income of the citizens which they Claim represent. This law should also include a reduction of congressional pay based upon personal wealth. Why should we as Americans pay a rich person, who already has more money than they know what to do with, an additional $179,000 per year for the honor of serving the people of America?

Face it our county is quickly running out of money; if we are not fixing someone else's country; or buying $ 3B Jet Fighters; or "bailing out" banks;  We are also expected to feed our hungry, care for our sick, and educate our children.

The time has come to tighten our belts as a nation and the obvious place to tighten them are the staff, and god knows we have a lot of staff in our government! The Average member of congress is paid (get this) 179,000 dollars a year; and is financially worth more (in many cases much more) than several million dollars. Yet these people have the gall to demand that we cut funding for schools, roads, and infrastructure without any of them at any point during the "Great Recession" have offered to take a pay cut to help balance the budget. Maybe it's just me but I think that is kind of rude, self-serving and a steaming pile of bull.

I am creating this petition to help bring down the bloody bigheads who are bleeding our country dry; starting with politicians in general.

It would behoove congress to tighten their belts as much as they expect us too. So as a show of their concern for the plight of all of the rest of us, and roll back their pay by 25% (saving $23,941,250 per year).

The Math:

There are 435 Members of the House of Representatives and 100 Members of The Senate. So at 179,000 each per year, that translates into $95,765,000 dollars per year. If Congress took a 25% pay cut, it would save $23, 941, 250.00 per year. This still means a member of congress who would still make $134,250.00 per year in wages; which is as far as we are concerned is more than fair compensation. Still it is ridiculous that these people believe they should be paid ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS per year, when median wages throughout the country are on the order of 31,000 to 42,000 per year in most of their districts. Sure Being a Congress Person is Hard Stuff, but how much harder is it than buildind a house, creating a four star meal, cleaning twenty hotel rooms, fixing a car, farming a field, or teaching a student? Is it so much harder that they deserve 4 to 5 times as much compensation as we, the people they are supposed to represent? I Don't Think So. Why do they think that our blood, sweat, and tears are somehow worth less than theirs?

We The Undersigned; Demand that the wages of all members of congress are reduced by 25% before making cutbacks in education, jobs, science, healthcare, or social programs.

Furthermore, we also demand a law be drafted by Congressmen Kucinich and Paul, permanently limiting the wages paid to members of congress to within no more than 20% of the citizen which they represent. This law should also include a reduction of congressional pay based upon personal wealth. Why should we as Americans pay a rich person, who already has more money than they know what to do with, an additional $179,000 per year for the honor of serving the people of America.

It is absolutely ridiculous that a politician should be making a six-figure salary while they are debating cutting our resources.

I am tired of the people of the United States getting taken for a ride and everything we stand for being taken from us while the politicians get rich off our backs.
