Topeka, Ks. is home of HATE group WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH. The first 3 digits in their zip code are 666. I have started a petition to change it to 888, which would represent loving kindness.
Westboro Baptist Church is the group who protest at soldiers funerals when they come home from fighting for our freedom. These are the people who planned to protest at the funerals of the five Amish girls executed in their Pennsylvania school. (They chose not to, in exchange for an hour of free radio time to spew their hatred over the air waves.) These are the people who stomp on our American flag at these demonstrations. These people also enjoy tax exempt status as a church.
Now they are demonstrating at the funerals of the 26 people who were killed in the recent school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. They say the shooter was sent FROM GOD to kill them as a message that this is punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality. How much hate must a person have inside them to carry a sign that reads “Thank God for dead babies” at the funerals of 6 and 7 year old children? This is a hate group, plain and simple.
The number 666 symbolizes hate, like the swastika has also come to symbolize hatred. The swastika was once a prominent Buddhist symbol that now represents the hatred and maniacal mind of one man. The number 666 doesn't make me think, "The number of the Beast", but if I see someone with 666, or a swastika, in a tattoo, on a hat or shirt, in a web address, or spray painted on a wall, I think of hate.
I think making this HATE GROUP write 888, in their address on all of their HATE MAIL, fliers, and group information, would be like making them replace the hate with hearts and kittens. They would have to write this everyday, and be reminded everyday that we will not tolerate their hatred.
This will not make a difference in the way that they think, but will give us the opportunity to voice our disdain for them. It is a very peaceful, yet potentially powerful change.
We can accomplish this as a nation. The person who can make this change is the Postal District Manager for the Topeka, Ks., Rick Pivovar. WE have to write to him and let him know our intentions, and why. ("Submit the specific change(s) desired, with any rationale and justification, in writing to the District Manager who would be responsible for the affected territory if the change were approved.") Everytime someone signs this petition, he will receive an email stating our concerns, along with anything you choose to add.
In addition to Mr. Pivovar, our petition will be delivered to President Obama, and several Federal and State elected officials.
