Leon Bender graduated from Santana High School in 1993. He then went on to Washington State on a scholarship to continue playing football in college. From there he was drafted first pick in the second round by the Oakland Raiders. Unfortunately, Leon never played in the NFL because he passed away unexpectedly before his dream came true. Leon was someone who was loved by all and naming Santana's football field after Leon would be a great way to honor his legacy in our community!

    1. Help Needed!

Since SHS administration is not currently in support of us moving forward with this proposal, I need help from people who can help push this matter. Whether its a high profile person, former teammates, NFL connections, WSU connections, anything or anyone that may be able to get us in the direction to make this clear to the high school that this should be done for Leon. I'm thinking fundraising ideas, more than likely a golf tournament, to raise money for a donation (plaque and sign included).
Really I'm looking for ideas and thoughts right now!! Please email me at dylanzrstar@cox.net if you have any ideas!
I will be meeting with a Santee City Council Member to discuss a couple ideas but would love to hear yours as well!!!
Together we can make this happen!!!

Because it honors a guy who deserved to live much longer than he did - and who love football, and loved his hometown!

The best friend I ever had, and his legacy deserves to be appreciated by the generations that follow. The touch he had on lives that knew him bring nothing but elation. The world can use more moments of happiness. LDB, my brother.

I went to college with Leon and he was truly an angel from heaven. Always helpful, sincere and wearing that million dollar smile. His memory will live forever.
