In the last several years the United States has seen several successes in the fight for same-sex marriage and as a Gay American I'm proud of that and I hope the fight will continue. Even with all this good news there is still a long fight ahead of us as we seek the equal protection under the law of all people period. One of the next great battles that may begin today is the fight for Poly rights.

Poly is a short hand term for Polyamory (, Polyfidelity, and other forms of non-monogamy. Polyamory is a form of consensual non-monogamy in which all parties involved are aware of the situation and are fine with it and are allowed to have multiple partners who are not necessarily all partnered together. Polyfidelity is also a form of consensual non-monogamy but in which all parties involved are in a closed relationship within the group and are all partnered together. Polygamy is an umbrella term which describes a situation in which one person has many partners but they only partner with that person. Polygyny is when one male identified person has many female identified partners. Polyandry is when one female identified person has many male partners.

Ethical non-monogamy in one form or another has been practiced by various cultures and individuals across the world from prehistoric times to the present. Contrary to popular belief ethical non-monogamy does not involve the exploitation of children, women, or anyone else for that matter rather any culture monogamous or otherwise is capable of that.

Poly people face a variety of social and legal forms of oppression which can no longer be tolerated. Poly people currently could be legally fired from there jobs, have their children taken away, be denied adoption rights, not have the right to see their spouses in the hospital or to have a say in medical decisions, be denied insurance coverage, denied inheritance, etc. etc. etc.

This petition call on closeted poly people to come out if you are willing and able. This petition calls on policy makers to enact laws protecting the rights of poly people. This petition calls on groups like the HRC to publicly support Poly identities as they have supported the LGBT etc. community. This petition calls on Faith communities to support Poly believers. This petition calls on allies of poly people to stand up and say no to mononormativity and polyphobia.

I have been in poly relationship for 6 successful years. Seems perfectly natural for us to live this way.

People shouldn't be bound by law on how many people they can love. Even back in Biblical times people had more than one spouse.
