Reverse their policy of rejecting same-sex announcements

    1. Scott Shumaker
    2. Petition by

      Scott Shumaker

Lancaster Newspaper's decision to reject a same-sex couple's engagement announcement based on their belief that it is not "consistent with prevailing community standards" is narrow-minded and contrary to the nationwide trend of increasing acceptance of same-sex relationships and marriage. A simple announcement of one couple's love is not offensive.

I doubt the newspaper covered this story of their own making that casts them in a blatant discriminatory role. Imagine how long it took them to publish interracial engagement announcements? What's next, not publishing obituaries of LGBT folks?

I grew up in Lancaster and moved away from Lancaster because of the narrow-mindedness of many of the people and institutions there. You will be on the wrong side of history, Lancaster Newspapers...

We LGBT people want to share the joy of our

special events, too. In 2012, it does not

seem as though this should be a problem.
