Keep Rush Limbaugh Out of the Hall of Famous Missourians

Rush Limbaugh's recent statements about Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke were completely heinous. Because Fluke was advocating for coverage of contraception, Limbaugh called her a "slut" and a "prostitute." He also described women wanting coverage of birth control are "feminazis" and said, "We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch."

Limbaugh's comments were disgusting, and many Missourians would be disgusted to find him honored in the "Hall of Famous Missourians" in our state's capitol. Limbaugh's face does not belong among those of Harry S. Truman, George Washington Carver, and Sacajawea.

Does Rush know that his hate-fulled language(not just the "slut/prostitute stuff but ALL of it) is damaging our national discourse? He's a smart guy (and terribly insensitive, rude, arrogant and demeaning) so he must. This means he's willing to do the damage he does to fuel his ego or wallet (both?). I'm a Republican -- and have a daughter named Reagan to prove it -- but he's simply gone too far. Love of party is one thing. Willingness to knowingly inflict this much collateral damage to pursue it is un-American, no matter how a mad-man spins it. Enough already. Let's find a more reasonable way to disagree and then work together to find solutions - not more damage.

I was born in Jefferson City and have lived here my whole life. To see that magnificent building when you drive into the city (from any of the highways that come here is so beautiful). I worked for the House of Representatives for 17 years and always was in awe of what is "the "PEOPLE's" building. I remember the first bust being given a place of honor. And then the ones to follow. Rush Limbaugh has NEVER contributed any thing but bigotry and a loud and dirty mouth to this State. If one can be placed in honor in the Capitol Building, for being a racist, anti-female, anti-gay, etc. etc. etc. then I would want the practice of "honoring" stopped. Mr. Speaker -- this is your call. I and so many others ask you to withdraw this person. If you won't do it alone, I urge our Governor and other electecd officials to do so -- to stop hatred and ignorance from landing a place of honor in this, the PEOPLE's building.

I was born and raised in Jefferson City, and the Capitol is to me a place of honor of our best. It is the home of the Benton murals and many other artifacts of people and things of which Missouri is proud. Rush Limbaugh, a hateful pig of a man, deserves no place there.

The fact that the state of Missouri considers Rush Limbaugh honorable makes me ashamed to be a Missourian. Someone with such extreme racist and sexist views does not deserve to be honored in the halls of any state.
