The peaceful city of Keene, New Hampshire is about to accept a $285,933 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to purchase a Bearcat, an eight-ton armored personnel vehicle made by Lenco Industries Inc. Our Mayor called it a tank.
I started this petition because I'm a local business owner and I know that most of the residents of Keene, NH don't want a tank. And we're pushing back.
Small business owner Dorrie O'Meara is among those residents. "Keene, New Hampshire is a beautiful place. It's gorgeous, and it's safe, and we love it here. We just don't want to live in the kind of place where there's an armored personnel carrier parked outside of City Hall. It's completely unnecessary. But it's more than that. It's just not who we are," she explained.
Jim Massery, the spokesperson for Lenco (the company benefiting off of the tax dollars used to purchase the Bearcat) has shown nothing but disrespect for the citizens of Keene, NH who have strongly opposed our the City Council accepting the tank-like vehicle. He even pulled a Bearcat ad from Lenco's website so Keene citizens couldn't see it.
"That video is totally irrelevant," Massery said. "We used some Hollywood effects and slick marketing to promote our product. So what?" (the ad features AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck' throughout ). He went on to call Keene residents who oppose the Bearcat "crazy."
Keene needs jobs - not a tank for our police department. Please sign this petition and let our City Council know... "Thanks but no Tanks!"
