Suspend Manifesta 10, 2014 in St. Petersburg until Russian troops are withdrawn from Ukraine.

    1. Petition by

a group of artists from Amsterdam and Düsseldorf

We the undersigned, request that Manifesta 10, 2014, which is to be hosted in St. Petersburg be suspended until Russian troops are withdrawn from the Ukraine.

We believe that participation in cultural activities with Russia at this time means legitimization and acceptance of Russian aggression towards the democratic nation of Ukraine.

We ask all participating artists, curators, organizers and funding organizations associated with Manifesta 10, 2014 to support this petition as an act of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

For those who don’t know: Manifesta is the large, prestigious European Biennial of Contemporary Аrt which changes its location every two years. This year it's suppose to take place in St. Petersburg, Russia. Manifesta is funded by the European Union, the Dutch Ministry of Culture, the Dutch Fonds BKVB and the Mondriaan Foundation.

Manifesta is to "restore balance between East and West" - Putin's clear violation of territorial integrity of a sovereign nation, special ops forces abducting, torturing and killing innocent citizens of a sovereign neighbor state while invading it, and bald lying propaganda while signing agreements is NOT balance and Manifesta contributes to this travesty and goes against its own mission statement if it continues in the service of this Kremlin-funded exhibition that touts the achievements of Catherine the Great who broke the backbone of Ukrainian resistance in her day while Putin now works to finish off what's left of dwindling Ukrainian citizens engaged in contemporary resistance. How artist intellectuals can knowingly contribute to tacit acceptance of such bald government corruption, lying, erasure of truth, justice, human rights, free speech, civic responsibility to one's own people let alone responsibility as a signatory to international agreements it continues to sign is truly unconscionable.
