Kansas Abortion Bill

Stop letting politicians make medical decisions

If this bill passes, a doctor could withhold medical information about the fetus (i.e. Anencephaly, Trisomy's, etc.) from the parents if the doctor believes that information may lead to the parents deciding to terminate the pregnancy. In essence, your doctor could tell you your baby is perfectly healthy & you wouldn't know it had severe defects until the baby was delivered AND the doctor would be protected from any malpractice suits! This bill also REQUIRES the doctor LIE to those seeking abortions by telling them of the "increased risk of breast cancer" from abortion (an assertion that has been disproven).

A woman's right to be in control of their own health care is not a right that should be taken away. Preserve a woman's right to choose.

While I personally object to abortions for moral reasons, the concept of doctors intentionally withholding information is (to me) just as reprehensive. As a premed student, I could see how this bill sets a dangerous precedent for regulating doctor-patient confidentiality. Medical treatment in general is based on informed consent, where the patient h(is/er)self makes a decision based on reasoned consideration of available options (this is the basis for a judge declaring someone mentally incapable and appointing a medical proxy).

I will not comment on the right to have an abortion etc. nor what government policy should be in re. tax or support of abortion centres, but in my opinion, the truth should and will out. Though I likely would support anti-abortion legislation on principle, I fail to see the moral or legal value of this bill.

By lying to women, politicians are declaring that women are not able to make choices for themselves and reducing them to the same level as children or animals. This is despicable. This is 2012, not 1212! If a woman can vote, she surely can decide, when give proper information, what choices she should make for herself medically. Spreading false information is not only belittling and insulting to American women, but it's dangerous as well.

I'm normally not vocal on this issue, but this bill is beyond unreasonable. It threatens the basic human rights of American women.

This has far-reaching health implications for parents all over the united states. DO NOT let this bill pass - we have a right to know what is going on with our unborn children.
