On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the Animal Cruelty Investigator for Camden City was called to a scene in Camden City, NJ to investigate a dog that witnesses say looked "starved".  The four year old pit bull was seized and the owner issued summonses.

The animal was in the custody of the Defendant, LaToya Durham, and starved to death.

NJ Aid for Animals was called to help keep Francis alive since their mission is to help abused and abandoned animals.  http://www.ci.camden.nj.us/city/municipalcourt.html

This is a serious crime against society and the wanton disregard for something living calls for proper prosecution. This is a case of wanton and callous disregard for life and this level of criminal neglect and torment of a helpless creature by this defendant requires proper justice be meted out. Every sentient being is entitled at a minimum to the right not to be subjected to unnecessary suffering.

Please let the prosecutors know that we demand punishment for the owner, no person should be allowed to inflict this kind of suffering on an animal and not be punished.

Please sign and share this petition as we all want justice for our dear Francis.

This petition will be updated as more information becomes available; however, the intent will remain the same.

To:
David Anderson, Esq., Prosecutors
We, the undersigned, respectfully request justice for Francis who suffered a horrible death in the hands of her owner. We request the maximum punishment allowed by law and that she not be allowed to own animals again.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

via NJ Aid for Animals: Francis (below) got his day in court yesterday (1-29-14) in Camden, NJ. Judge ordered now convicted animal abuser LaToya Durham to pay court costs and fines (no jail time of course for now) and restitution to NJ Aid for Animals of $500 for trying to keep Francis alive more than two years ago. Judge advised defendant that if she failed to pay, she "wouldn't be the first mother with kids that would be thrown into jail". Kathy McGuire, President of NJAFA, was allowed to speak on behalf of Francis. RIP little man. A crime against an animal is a crime against society. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=702159933167589&set=a.121470604569861.17734.121427534574168&type=1&theater

Hey, I I wanted to give you an update on my Francis case:

Yesterday 1/29/2014, WE GOT A GUILTY PLEA from the owner: Latoya Durham

      NO ANIMALS FIVE YEARS

$750 IN FINES AND RESTITUTION + COURT COSTS & SAFE STREETS (ABOUT ANOTHER $100/$150)

Not what "I" wanted, but NJ laws would not grant the justice "I" would have liked to have gotten for Francis. But she has a DP (Disorderly Persons) on her record and it will follow her. If she misses ONE PAYMENT to NJ Aid For Animals, she will be back in court so fast and be held to the judges contempt. After the judge saw the pictures he was more than willing to let her know, that he has no problem putting her in jail if she misses a payment. Good Work by all involved 2 years and 3 months later she still had to held accountable.

As a dog owner, I feel especially saddened and want to see this sort of behavior stopped.
