I am sooo happy to say that Nyanga, the lioness' life was spared and she was moved and relocated to another facility.

Statements proved that the accident happened due to human error. The Lioness was merely acting as she would in the wild. Lions at a zoo are not meant to be tame nor to get in close contact with humans. It was confirmed that she did not show any signs of aggression towards other humans afterwards. PLEASE PLEASE save this lioness!

    3. Latest statement from Jhb Zoo and GREAT news from SanWild!

      HI fellow Nyanga-carers,

The latest statement from the Jhb Zoo contains the following:
"In the meantime, the investigation into the circumstances of the incident which led to the death of our colleague, Joe Ramonetha and the assessment of the lioness by qualified experts continues" "A lot of regret has been received and continue to be posted in various media platforms" "This statement serves to confirm the Johannesburg Zoo and City of Johannesburg management's commitment to deal with this matter in a fair and transparent way. A long-lasting solution can be found if all stakeholders allow the due processes to complete its course".
Although this sounds alot better, I AM NOT CONVINCED, which brings me to my next point: WONDERFUL NEWS from SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary. They have officially offered to take Nyanga, so the zoo cannot say they don't have any other choice. PLEASE support SanWild as they need alot of financial support. Go to the links to read the whole story!

      My best regards!

      Hi fellow carers,

Last night the Johannesburg Zoo released an official statement saying the following:

"A decision on the future of the lioness will not be taken until a scietific assessment on her (the lioness) behaviour and the outcome of an independent investigation on the incident by the law enforcement officers, city structures and experts are completed."

This simply is not good enough! I want a guarantee. PLEASE continue to support this cause and petition. Send it to all of your friends ALL OVER THE WORLD!

      Thank you sooo much!

      Let's make a change together!!

      Hi everyone,

First off thank you SOOOOO much to you ALL for supporting this very important petition!! I am just a regular girl from Pretoria South Africa, who has an urging passion to fight for animals as they are where they are because of us. Especially this lioness who might get put down because she acted according to her nature as a wild animal.......DISGUSTING!

For those of you following this story and or South African news, you'll know there has been complete silence about the consideration of euthanising the lioness since it came out. This makes me worry. I will call the Johannesburg Zoo tomorrow and find out what the situation is. I will off course let all of you know!!

As I'm typing this the amount of signatures is growing! I thank you SOOOOOOO much!!! Let's keep it going and fight for the beautiful animal that cannot fend for herself...

      You guys are AWESOME!!!!

      Remember: you ARE the change!

      Best regards,
      Lindie

Lions are wild animals, they are hunters & protectors of their young.. If this had happened in the wild it would be just a tragedy but because it was in a zoo, where the animals are already subjected to cages & human schedules they are expected to 'behave' differently... Humans working with wild animals know the risks & should use better judgement & control... No matter how 'tame' an wild animal is seen it is ultimately still a wild animal & should be treated as such not punished for being who they are!!

She is a wild animal and should be treated as such. People should respect this at all times and if she is caged that makes no difference she is from the wild and that is where she should be - not in a Zoo
