Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia: Create and enforce new policies that allow for true scientific discourse about holistic approaches to healing.

    1. Petition by

      Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology

Wikipedia is widely used and trusted. Unfortunately, much of the information related to holistic approaches to healing is biased, misleading, out-of-date, or just plain wrong. For five years, repeated efforts to correct this misinformation have been blocked and the Wikipedia organization has not addressed these issues.  As a result, people who are interested in the benefits of Energy Medicine, Energy Psychology, and specific approaches such as the Emotional Freedom Techniques, Thought Field Therapy and the Tapas Acupressure Technique, turn to your pages, trust what they read, and do not pursue getting help from these approaches which research has, in fact, proven to be of great benefit to many. This has serious implications, as people continue to suffer with physical and emotional problems that might well be alleviated by these approaches.

Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, left the organization due to concerns about its integrity. He stated: "In some fields and some topics, there are groups who 'squat' on articles and insist on making them reflect their own specific biases. There is no credible mechanism to approve versions of articles.”

This is exactly the case with the Wikipedia pages for Energy Psychology, Energy Medicine, acupuncture, and other forms of complementary/alternative medicine (CAM), which are currently skewed to a negative, unscientific view of these approaches despite numerous rigorous studies in recent years demonstrating their effectiveness. These pages are controlled by a few self-appointed “skeptics” who serve as de facto censors for Wikipedia. They clothe their objections in the language of the narrowest possible understanding of science in order to inhibit open discussion of innovation in health care. As gatekeepers for the status quo, they refuse discourse with leading edge research scientists and clinicians or, for that matter, anyone with a different point of view. Fair-minded referees should be given the responsibility of monitoring these important areas.

I pledge not to donate to your fundraising efforts until these changes have been made.

    1. ACEP gains an ally in the fair treatment of integrative approaches

      Dear friends,

Because of your support, we ran a successful petition last year gaining over 11,280 signatures. Thank you! Our Wikipedia campaign continues and we have some exciting progress to share. ACEP has recently begun collaborating with the developers of the Integrative Studies Historical Archive and Repository (ISHAR). The goal of ISHAR is to digitally curate 500,000+ entries on cultural and cutting edge scientific knowledge related to mind/body healing practices from all over the world (including energy psychology). Additionally, ISHAR aims to serve as a major institutional voice (in conjunction with ACEP) to weigh in on and correct misinformation that currently exists about EFT, TFT, energy medicine, etc. on standard platforms such as Wikipedia.

Well known and respected supervisors of the project include Deepak Chopra and Professor Robert Thurman, who Time Magazine chose as one of its 25 most influential Americans in 1997, describing him as a "larger than life scholar-activist destined to convey the Dharma, the precious teachings of Siddhartha, from Asia to America."

How can I continue to help the cause?
Watch the videos on the ISHAR IndieGoGo campaign page (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/let-s-raise-ishar), pledge a donation − even $20 (the cost of one yoga class) will help and share with friends and colleagues. If you continue to be frustrated by the way so-called “skeptics” have usurped Wikipedia, this is a way to bring power to bear on them. ACEP is providing a substantial matching grant to ISHAR ($2,000) in the next 36 hours.

It took the organizational strength of ACEP to change the APA’s stance on energy psychology. More recently, ACEP has focused its organizational strength on new goals. We are advocating for integrity in following the doctrines of fair play and neutrality in describing and evaluating EP, EFT and other integrative approaches on the web and in print. ISHAR stands for the same things. We are so pleased to have an ally in ISHAR.

Thank you again for your continued support!

No, you have to be kidding me. Every single person who signed this petition needs to go back to check their premises and think harder about what it means to be honest, factual, truthful.

Wikipedia's policies around this kind of thing ...

I have found alternative methods of healing far more useful and without the side effects of drugs. If you have never used holistic healing trying any of them might just change your mind. These healing methods don't disappear because they work.

I don't want "gatekeepers" obscuring facts, studies & possibilities that don't agree with their view of the world.

Unless Wikipedia is robust enough to support true freedom of information, it is just as corrupt & untrustworthy as the corporate media it purports to provide an alternative to. Luddites should not be editing progressive media! Their values are in complete conflict.

The very fact that there are a small number of biased editors working with Wikipedia is unscientific. If humankind had relied solely on the results of scientific evidence we would be hundreds of years behind our current state. It is scientific fact that the human digestive system is not compatible with cow's milk, and yet millions of people drink it and refuse to acknowledge that the lactose is causing problems out of sheer stubbornness. Now have a look back to every food, drink, & product in your life to the point where it was discovered by humankind and ponder on the lack of scientific research done before adopting each thing into human life.

There is ample research in "respectable scientific journals" to honestly, factually, and truthfully validate acupuncture as an effective modality for many conditions. If truth is the goal of wikipedia, then they should look at all the research available and hold themselves to their own standards when covering topics.
