Stop sentencing of assault victim Savannah Dietrich

17 year old Savannah Dietrich faces jail time after tweeting the names of her sexual abusers when she learned their charges for the assault were too lenient in her opinion. In August 2011, she was assaulted while passed out drunk at a party. Pictures were taken of the act and shared. Dietrich is being held in contempt, though her attorneys argue she has a right to the First Amendment. A charge could carry a $500 fine and 180 days in jail. The idea of an individual who has been sexually assaulted to be blamed for actions done against them is disgusting and completely unacceptable, appalling anytime especially in 2012. Savannah, and any other person who has suffered this against them, should not be threatened with prison to keep their mouths shut.

She has suffered publicly and her life changed forever, why protect her attackers?

They SHOULD be identified and put on a sex offenders list.

Drop the charges, Judge McDonald. It is incredible and disheartening that a sexual assault victim would be punished for speaking up and refusing to be silent. Are you on the side of justice, or are you not? See Oklahoma Publishing Co. v. District Court (1977). Clearly she has the right to speak about her attackers.

I will sign all petitions for this young girl. As a rape victim, I am disgusted 100% at the way this poor girl has been treated by the "justice system". As others have said, they committed and posted pictures of the heinous crime first, they pled guilty, and all she was doing was letting people know who the criminals were. Stop treating rape victims like we are criminals!

I am so glad that Savannah has the courage to name her attackers.
