The City College of San Francisco Diversity Departments

African American Studies
Asian Studies
Asian American Studies
Interdisciplinary Studies
Labor and Community Studies
Latino/a and Latin American Studies
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies
Philippine Studies
Women's Studies

These departments are the product of generations of hard and ongoing civil and human rights struggles. They must not be eliminated or compromised using the excuses of budgetary or accreditation challenges. Their autonomy as separate departments must be maintained.

The Diversity Departments are a unique resource for the college and the wider Bay Area community, enriching students' learning experiences immeasurably and drawing large numbers of students to the school who would otherwise pursue their educations elsewhere. These departments educate and empower our communities. We insist that college leaders now stand by them. Defend the Diversity Departments!

Join us this Thursday March 14th from 4-6PM in front of SF City Hall!

The March 14 action is placing three demands on SF elected representatives:

      1) Use the power of your office to ensure that Prop A funds be used as the voters intended: to reverse cuts to classes, services, staff, and faculty.

      2) Commit to filling any budget gap by advancing funds to CCSF. Call on Sacramento to reverse spending priorities. (California is currently 49th in public education spending and 1st in prison spending.)

      3) Call on the Department of Education to take immediate action to stop the ACCJC’s unjustified show cause sanction against CCSF.

I am someone who attended City College in 1963-64 and view it as an institution San Francisco could be proud to claim. I just attended a Labor Fest performance of the Rockin' Solidarity Labor Heritage Chorus and was so excited about its existance & teachings that I want to be a part of it. City College is too important to be put asunder! Let CCSF continue its tradition of progressive & meaningful education!

These departments foster integrative thinking and cross-cultural understanding, both critical skills for anyone wanting to succeed professionally and participate in civic life.

Ethnic Studies has been under attack in this country and now Labor Studies. This has become an attack towards the 99%.

CCSF is an institution that provides a bridge for the working class of SF. It is a bridge to employment, a bridge to higher education, and a bridge to becoming an informed and aware member of the community. It must survive if SF wants to continue to prosper.
