Continue our Block Schedule.

    1. Petition by

I would like to thank everyone who signed this petition, and who will continue signing this petition. It did everything I hoped it would and more: it brought attention to something that needed attention, and showed how much we actually do care about our education.

It was posted in the Democrat http://www.nj.com/hunterdon-county-democrat/index.ssf/2012/09/state_teacher_evaluations_coul.html that there were possible schedule changes for next year involving an A/B rotating schedule, meaning 4 classes on A day, another 4 classes on B day. Our cause is to keep the schedule as is, that there is no need to fix something that isn't broken. Maintaining 4 classes a day per semester helps our ability to succeed and be able to take full advantage of what our school has to offer.

How would 8 classes a week affect you?

I am a student and this is stupid. If the purpose of the change is to increase academic rigor, this is not the way to go about it. This change will just make the school year more hectic.

I FEEL THE BLOCK SCHEDULE HAS ALLOWED STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO DABBLE IN VARIED AREAS OF STUDY MAKING COLLEGE CHOICES MUCH EASIER. ALSO THIS STYLE OF LEARNING IS GREAT FOR TRANSITION TO COLLEGE.

We've had 2 children go through HCRHS using the current block scheduling, and it prepared them well for college (4-5 subjects in a for half a year). My incoming freshman just got a schedule that has slots for A and B days. Yes, for this year, the schedule is identical on A and B days, but it sure seems like a setup. Why have these columns been added if a decision has not been made. Where is the benefit in juggling 8 classes over A and B days? Who had the bright idea to tie the superintendent's bonus to children "taking" more AP classes instead of "exceeding" by getting 4's or 5's on the test?

As a recent graduate from HCRHS not only did I enjoy having block scheduling, I also benefited from it as well. Also for classes like many of the art (which I pursued) much of the time is wasted in preparation and getting into a project so having 90 min to do so really enhanced the classroom experience
