      Arcata, CA

We are asking the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors to reconsider the June 3rd decision to adopt the revised Guiding Principles to the Humboldt County General Plan Update.

We feel that this decision should be reconsidered because insufficient time was available for public review and comment on such a significant change in language.

We respectfully ask that the Board of Supervisors honor the diversity of Humboldt County and make a sincere, transparent, and robust effort to articulate and adopt guiding principles that are broadly inclusive.

To:
Humboldt County Board of Supervisors
Please reconsider the decision to adopt revised General Plan Guiding Principles to allow sufficient time for public participation.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

The process was not democratic or inclusional and influenced by special interests

Years have been spent on this matter by previous concerned citizens and county representatives. It is disheartening to see their painstaking efforts undone.

I was shocked when the Board of Supervisors voted 4:1 to not consider health implications of the general plan, specifically ignoring the findings of the vigorous health impact assess that showed infill, development of affordable housing and non-motorized transportation and preservation of open lands, with few excepections, would result in a healthier community in 20 years than the current language supported by the Board. Yikes! And now they want to ignore years of community input, radically changing the sentiment of the general plan. Thank you all who are on the scene protesting this shift.

There was no time for true public input on this haphazard decision. That is not how things are done in a democracy, and we deserve better. Please do the right thing and make this a decision that is reached by the residents of humboldt county, and not just a few insiders.
