Help the Democratic Governors Association Defend Workers Rights

    1. Sponsored by

      Democratic Governors Association

Throughout America, the rights of workers are under attack.

Governors and lawmakers in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana should be putting all of their efforts into getting people back to work and improving our economy.

Instead, they’re wasting precious time and energy on trying to take away workers’ rights and make it even more difficult for hard-working Americans to earn a decent wage and support their family.

We need to stand with these workers and tell them we will not sit idly by while their rights are stolen and their livelihoods are jeopardized.

Join the Democratic Governors Association to tell Republican governors throughout America to stop unfairly strong-arming public employees.

Sign our petition today and demand that these state leaders sit down with employees to find a reasonable compromise that both reduces the deficit and preserves the rights of workers.

I am an injured worker in Minnesota and it has been an absolute nightmare. My job won't let me come back to work because of my strict restrictions and I am not being paid by them or workers compensation. I am only 30 years old and have been fighting for my rights for 3 years now. I am most likely going to be injured the rest of my life and the way I am being treated is unfair.

Republican Governor Rick Snyder of Michigan's union busting law not only takes away the rights of Michigan public workers to form and join unions but abolish local governments and force Michigan residents into taxation without representation. Across the country Republican extremist governors are attacking worker's rights and pushing undemocratic bills through state legislatures to break union contracts by claiming new powers for the state government to be used for union busting.

This abuse of power and establishment of really big state governments is unacceptable. Furthermore, CONSIDERING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS ALWAYS CLAIMED TO BE THE PARTY OF LIMITED GOVERNMENT this is just the latest example of GOP hypocrisy where they say they don't want big government taking away people's rights but on certain issues they like using government to take away certain rights. They want to use government to take away the rights of workers to join and form unions - which helped champion child labor laws and push for collective bargaining rights -- they are trying to take away our voices -- the voice of our nation's workers to bargain for better working conditions, better pay and/or benefits etc.

Workers are what makes our economy strong -- without workers the nation's businesses wouldn't have people to do the work of making or providing product/services to communities. Time and again Republicans continue to demand more sacrifices of the middle class and let the unshared prosperity of the rich continue. We will not sit idly by and watch worker's rights being stolen and their livelihoods jeopardized. I am delivering this message to Republican governors to stop unfairly strong-arming and bullying public employees.

Instead sit down with employees and labor union leaders to find reasonable compromises that both reduce state budget deficits and preserve the rights of workers.

Wisconsin progressives are saddened by the total disregard for public employees and their willingness to negotiate on important state budget challenges. The fact that legislators stripped the bill of fiscal details to jam through the destruction of worker rights by itself shows once and for all that this stunt was not about balancing the budget – it was a partisan power grab.

Walker has been dishonest, underhanded, crooked, criminal, deceptive, untrustworthy, unscrupulous, we are ashamed and humiliated that he is representative of our state of Wisconsin.
