There is no Federal Legislation to protect the koala. There used to be millions of Koalas. In the 1920's and 1930's hundreds of thousands of koalas were slaughtered each year. There are now about 80,000 koalas. The koala population is falling due to habitat destruction, disease, cars and dogs. Australia's treatment of koalas is shameful .

Koalas are part of Australia. They belong in this country. Koalas are innocent creatures and don't do any harm to humans. We, Humans, should be ashamed of ourselves. We should respect our native species. RESPECT AND CHERISH, NOT DESTRUCTION.

I ask you as a matter of urgency, to legislate to protect this disappearing species. Koalas were once abundent in this region, this is not the case today.

Their numbers are on a desperate incline, nationally so I plead and I urge you to be civilized and protect one of Australias iconic species with legislation, before it is to late.

What legacy will you leave for future generations of Koala's and humans?.

It is completely unfathomable that such an iconic species is in free fall- we must do everything we can to stop their decline and protect precious habitat

We have watched the koala disappear from our area over the past 15 years. We used to have the joy of regularly seeing koalas in our area. We joined the Hunter Koala Society to try to do soemthing to help the koala. We did our best to help - now it is the politicians turn. They cannot in all morale conscience let the koala suffer the way that many other species in Australia have become extinct. Act NOW and do the right thing - protect our koala.
