Despite being banned in the Philippines since 1998, the illegal dog meat trade continues to flourish in certain regions, including Baguio City. Humane Society International has been working with local police and animal groups for over a year to end this cruel trade and enforce the Anti-Rabies Law of 2007. But we need your help!

Please ask the Mayor of Baguio City to stop the illegal dog meat trade for good—by cracking down on restaurants and vendors in his city who sell illegal dog meat.

Thank you.

Thank you! Please take this opportunity to make a brief, polite phone call to your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to sign on to two letters circulating in the U.S. Congress. These letters urge Philippine President Macapagal-Arroyo and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, respectively, to do all they can to shut down this barbaric, underground industry. Click here to look up your Representative and the office phone number. When you call you can say:

"Hello, my name is [your name], and I'm calling from [your town]. As a constituent, I am asking that [your Representative's name] sign on to the letters to the President of the Philippines and Secretary Rice to stamp out the Philippine trade in dog meat. These letters are being circulated by Representatives Elliot Engel (D-NY) and Chris Smith (R-NJ) and I'd be so grateful if [your Representative's name] signed on to them. Thank you."

This behavior is unexceptable. Laws with stronger penalties need to be enforced!

You would not doubt at all to start selling children meat, if you do that with dogs. What is the difference?

It is not a necessary or acceptable form of a food source. Not in this era. It is a learned trait as a delicacy for different countries.  I know that there are Koreans that eat dogs still in Korea.  I have a friend who is married to a US Korean and he has family over there that still confirm this barbaric food consumption still exisits.
