Mothers that are in a Domestic Violence relationship often move out of their home and even out of their state of residency to escape from their abusers. This is often resulting in losing custody of their children. After going through an abusive relationship a mother should not be worried that she might lose custody of her children and even worse the abuser becomes the legal custodial parent. I think by implementing laws to protect Domestic Violence Victims Custodial Rights it will encourage women to escape this horrendous and dangerous relationships, It will take away power from the abuser to use children to manipulate their victims, It will also prevent the child to have to live with an abusive person, and it will protect them instead.

A batterer who does file for custody will frequently win, as he has numerous advantages over his partner in custody litigation.
These include: 1) his typical ability to afford better representation (often while simultaneously insisting that he has no money with which to pay child support), 2) his marked advantage over his victim in psychological testing, since she is the one who has been traumatized by the abuse, 3) his ability to manipulate custody evaluators to be sympathetic to him, and 4) his ability to manipulate and intimidate the children regarding their statements to the custody evaluator.

Because of the effects of trauma, the victim of battering will often seem hostile, disjointed, and agitated, while the abuser appears friendly, articulate, and calm. Evaluators are thus tempted to conclude that the victim is the source of the problems in the relationship. A lot of victims often change jobs due to the abuse at home, and they often appear as financially weak against the abuser.

Therefore, it is very important that we must educate and train our law makers including, judges, attorneys, police and law enforcement agencies on Domestic Violence and the effects on the victims and children.

I also propose that there should be a DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENSE REGISTRY. I believe that if there were larger consequences for the abusers such as a Registry just like for sex offenders, the abuse will decline, it will prevent abuse and thousands of lives will be saved.

Abusers do not want anyone else to know what they do to their victims.

Domestic abuse is as bad as Sexual Abuse.

**WE MUST BRING ATTENTION TO OUR LAW MAKERS SO THEY CAN HELP IMPLEMENT NEW LAWS TO PREVENT CHILDREN TO BE RAISE BY ABUSERS**

**DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT A LIFESTYLE OR A CHOICE, AND IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANY OF US**

Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten.
Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Most often, the abuser is a member of her own family.
Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.
Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm if presented with a breakup.
Everyday in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.
Ninety-two percent of women surveyed listed reducing domestic violence and sexual assault as their top concern.
Domestic violence victims lose nearly 8 million days of paid work per year in the US alone—the equivalent of 32,000 full-time jobs.

Women trapped in relationships with abusers come to expect horrendous
misbehavior from their partners. What they cannot fathom is the maddening
reinforcement commonly provided to abusive men by the justice system and
the public at large. . . . That key abuse collaborator is the custody judge. Of
all of the actors in a battered woman’s life, none wield more power over her
children and financial future. It is beyond infuriating when women discover
that their custody judges lack understanding of DV and are colluding with
abusers to take away women’s financial resources and, even worse, their
      children.

I am a mother of 3. While I was in a shelter for abused women the father of my 2 girls filed for custody. I was forced to leave them with him due to the fact I could not take them out of the state. It has been a year since I've seen them and it is the hardest thing I've had to live with. Now I live in tx and they are in ps :(
