Childhood obesity threatens the health of our young people and their future potential. Today, more than 23 million children and adolescents in the United States—nearly one in three young people—are either obese or overweight, putting them at higher risk for serious, even life-threatening health problems.

If we don’t reverse the epidemic, the current generation of young people could be the first in U.S. history to live sicker and die younger than their parents’ generation.

For real change to happen, we need to change the root causes of childhood obesity. It's going to take a movement to change schools, to change communities, and to change national policies.

There’s hope. Join the national PreventObesity.net network of parents, schools, leaders, activists, and volunteers committed to ending childhood obesity.

With your help, we can bring together the people needed to turn this epidemic around and improve the health of our children, families and communities.

Together, we’ll help raise awareness about the impact of childhood obesity – and change our culture and our public policy to do something about it.  Join the movement. Pledge to help fight childhood obesity today!

I pledge to help power the movement to prevent childhood obesity and fight this epidemic.

I'm concerned about the rise of obesity in children and youth. I pledge to do what I can to turn this epidemic around and help kids stay healthier so they can live full lives and realize their dreams.

When I was young I was overweight a little bit, not obesity for overweight. I noticed the difference in being in much better shape My little brother was obesity and he worked his tail off and lost over 60 pounds. Its such a big difference being in better physical shape, you have more confidence, you feel better, more energy. I think it's critical to improve the obesity rate for so many reasons

i signed because our society says we are either to thin or obese. children see ads about food all over and non of it is healthy. they dont get enough physical fitness. i think that schools should proved this type of education to students and parents and start sheping our nation to be healthy

We cannot sit by and watch our kids grow into unhealthy individuals and if we don't take action now we have no one to blame but us for our kids future.

I am unfortunately overweight with a BMI over 30 (technically obese). I am the one in the one-in-three people. It's difficult for me to lose weight due to my psychological disorders and medications, however I do still try to eat healthy. Being thin isn't what being healthy is all about, though — internal health of your organs and body parts is most important. Weight loss will come along with that naturally.

considering almost 60% of children are obese, this is a big problem that needs to be fixed. http://cardonationsforkids.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/parents-need-to-stand-up-to-childhood-obesity/
