Heart Stick Euthanasia — Lesser Known But No Less Cruel

What is it? Best case scenario, a syringe filled with sodium pentobarbital is jabbed through the animal’s chest wall into the heart. Worst case scenario, the kennel tech misses, punctures sensitive nerve endings instead, or maybe a lung. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Never mind that sodium pentobarbital burns like acid.

But the animals are completely anesthetized, so maybe this isn’t such a big deal. They can’t feel it, right? Wrong. In many cases all over the country, shelter workers have spoken up claiming that the procedure has been done by shelter workers, most of whom make barely more than minimum wage, on fully conscious animals. They can feel everything. Is this the way an animal is to be treated? Please stop this Inhumane treatment.

I will share this petition again, because heart stick euthanasia has no place in a civilised nation like the U.S. It is cruel beyond belief. Anyone who reads this, please PLEASE share this petition again with everyone and explain to them why they must sign and share.

I am signing this as Heart Stick is wrong. But Robeson County stopped using it over a year ago as well. Sad news Columbus County, NC still does use it.
