Remove onesie messages: "Smart Like Dad" and "Pretty Like Mom"

Messages are constantly being marketed to children that reinforce negative perceptions and ideas of what it means to be girl and boy. Girls are incessantly told that looks are the most important thing about them and boys grow up believing that. We need to break down these stereotypes so that both boys and girls are free to make choices and pursue interests that come naturally to them without fear.

I'm a female medical student and I'm going to be a general surgery resident next year. I don't think little girls should get the message that being pretty is all they can aspire to.

If we don't persistently and constantly call out the gender stereotypes we see in our society, we have no hope of overcoming them.
