All dogs should be given a fair chance at a good life. Even dogs with a "dangerous" background. Any animal can be made aggressive. If an owner treats any dog poorly, the dog could become aggressive. Pit Bulls, should be given the same chance. If this shelter were to become a "No-Kill" shelter, the dogs could be given tests to observe their temperament. If they pass these tests, they should become "adoptable."
Along with animals going through tests, future owners should undergo some, as well. Such as interviews and background checks. Seeing as many Pit Bull owners use their dogs to "fight", the owners should sign a contract that allows the Shelter to "check up" on the dogs whenever they please. If they find anything wrong with housing, or treatment of the dog, authorities may seize the dog until further notice. By signing said contract, the owner agrees to treat the dog well, and provide it with food, shelter, and water everyday. With this contract, there should be no excuse for animal cruelty, or neglect.
By changing this shelter to a "No Kill" shelter, many dogs who have been neglected by their owners could have a second chance at a happy life. Dogs are a mans best friend, and it is excruciatingly painful to see any dog be put down, simply because of their breeds history. "Punish the deed, not the Breed."
