A public execution of an Afghan woman has taken place in Afghanistan. A video shows a woman kneeling down in the dirt and being shot five times at close range by a man. The 150 or so men, who watch, cheer the execution. Video: http://youtu.be/wvtkaH83xAM
Recently, at the conference in Tokyo, attended by representatives from over 70 countries, 16 billion dollars in civilian aid was pledged to the Afghan government for the next 4 years. The international community therefore has the power to ensure women’s rights are protected. Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places in the world because women are not protected from violence.
As the UK, US, Japan, and Germany are the biggest donors of aid, PLEASE tell them to ensure:
a) the Afghan government shows its commitment to women’s rights by identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
b) aid is conditional on protecting women's rights
c) a sufficient level of aid is ring fenced so that it reaches women
d) specific measures and firm action is taken that improves the safety of women and girls and increases their access to justice, which are monitored and evaluated
Sign this petition and support the rights of Afghan women.
Petition letters will be sent to governments of Afghanistan, UK, US, Japan and Germany.
