Veto CHILD ENDANGERMENT BILLS HB 189 / SB 349

These bills were intended to protect 'faith based' adoption/foster care agencies from having to handle placement to gay parents, however, as drafted and passed they are CHILD ENDANGERMENT bills. Beyond 'Faith Conscience' they allow discrimination based on 'moral values' which has NO definition in the Code of Va. They prevent the Social Services Department from pulling a license for ANY PRACTICE an agency claims is part of their 'moral values. Examples are putting children to work, withholding medication. (pray away treatments), and putting LGBT kids into 'Ex-Gay' therapy. The bills also have a 'hold harmless' clause protecting those agencies from suit. A provision NOT found anywhere else in the Code of Virginia. Governor McDonnell told the General Assembly to 'play nice' at the beginning of the session. Now he must play nice and veto these bills.

Religion's are for more out of control than previously thought. There needs to be laws to protect people from individuals that think abuse in the name of God is acceptable. People like this make this world a horrible place to live in.

These are horrible, archaic and unfair ideas. God and Jesus would not approve of such judgmental hypocrisy.

If our current adoption system isn't broken, why "fix" it in a way that reduces likelihood a child will be adopted? This bill is overbroad and poorly defined. As such, it pollutes Va Code.

Bills like this give people who believe they have the right to behave as God ambiguously written laws that allow them to leave broken people in their wake as collateral damage as they advance their own selfish and narrow agendas. Disgusting.

This is simply inhuman! I can't begin to name the ways that these bills are wrong. It makes me want to wretch to think that in the 21st Century people would so hate their fellow man/woman that they would try to pass discriminatory legislation like these attacks on certain groups of Americans!
