The Great Lakes provide drinking water for more than 40 million people. These are among the largest bodies of fresh water on earth and combined they make up a full one fifth of the WORLD'S water supply. The potential for irreversible global consequences caused by contamination from hydraulic fracking onn or near these lakes cannot be ignored or denied. The harmful effects of removing trillions of gallons of water from the environment forever, by allowing Great Lakes waterways to become filliing stations for the oil and gas industry will have a devastating effect on the international environment. The destruction of millions of acres of natural wilderness and pristine waterways is nothing short of a travesty against all life. We implore you to consider the possible consequences of your actions upon the world and upon future generations. We will not sit by silently while you destroy our land, our water, our environment, our health and our future and the future's of our children and grandchildren. We demand a ban on hydraulic fracking on all lands and waterways that have the potential to impact the Great Lakes. This demand is made with the knowledge and understanding that the world as a whole will suffer irreparable damage, if these lakes are destroyed by the thougtless, ill informed actions of current governmental officials.

Thank-you to those who have signed and shared so far. The newly formed international coalition for protecting the Great Lakes from fracking has gained nearly a hundred supporters from around the US and the world, in its very first week of existence. Just think, if all 40 million of us who depend on these lakes for water could all join together, to stand up for our water, our land and our health, we CAN push back the gas and oil companies, and we WILL find a way to save the Great Lakes, protect these resources for generations to come.

This is important to me for the very reasons stated in the petition. I can't believe, for the sake of money, we let activities like fracking continue to kill ourselves and the world around us.

My climate is directly effected by the Great Lakes. Plus, it just doesn't make sense to 'frack' with the world's largest supply of fresh surface water. Duh.
