Global Fund G8 and Other Donor Commitments

    1. Petition by

Bednets which cost just $5 stop children, their mothers and fathers from getting malaria. This means they can stay well and go to school, work and earn a living. Medication for life-threatening illnesses like TB and HIV can also keep people alive, healthy, well and productive. The G8 leaders promised the Global Fund money to combat these life-threatening and debilitating illnesses. One DAY of US military spending is MORE than one YEAR of the US commitment. PLEASE sign our petition. Hold the G8 Nations to account. We want our taxes spent on people not military hardware, on health not bankers' bonuses. Save the Global Fund now - please sign this petition - and millions around the world will thank you.

NEW: 8 March 2012 - please also visit http://www.womeneurope.net/index.php/page/Global_Fund_Petition_to_G8/en and download our new poster which you are welcome to share with your friends

NB: Please do encourage your friends to sign this petition also - could you put it on twitter or on your facebook account? The Global Fund needs $2 billion right now to keep millions of people alive - people just like me who would be dead without my medication. That's just over one day of US spend on its military. Thanks so much! Thank you to you all who have signed this petition. We have sent letters to all the G8 leaders today, calling on them to fulfill their commitments to the Global Fund. $US 2 billion over the next six months is a drop in the ocean in this world economy. The US alone spends this on its military daily. A "Robin Hood" tax on the global financial services sector, the centre of which in Europe is in London, would raise $250 billion annually. It is a moral imperative that developed countries do all they can to help prevent such diseases. It is an obscenity that our governments are not giving more.
