Give Texas Prisoners Three Meals a Day

To save money, Texas prison officials have stopped serving three meals a day to prisoners on the weekends. This is inhumane and prisoners should be given adequate nutrition.

I'm starting this petition because my dad is sick and in prison. He is currently taking treatments to keep his liver healthy and keep him alive and a side effect of the medication is that he will loose weight. Now that he is not receiving enough food to eat it is impossible for him to stay healthy.

Standards adopted by the American Correctional Association recommend that adult prisons serve three meals per day and does not state that variations of these standards can be implemented every weekend or as a cost-cutting measure. Additionally, Texas state law requires that county inmates be fed “three times in any 24-hour period."

Currently about 23,000 inmates in 36 prisons are eating two meals a day on Saturdays and Sundays. There are other ways to cut costs that do not involve risking the health of human beings just because they are in prison.

The Texas prison system should be evaluating why so many people are in prison and if they really need to be there at all.

Please join me in asking Texas officials to reinstate three meals for prisoners in Texas.

I recieved a letter from House Representative Mark Strama in this letter Mark Strama thanks me for my call concerning the treatment of prisoners in Texas. He then goes on to say he appreciates my concern and that he will keep my views in mind as he prepares for the 83rd legislative session that will begin in January of 2013. This is BS and I will not take it I will continue to fight until we get some real results.

      Thanks supporters

This is a disgrace!!! There are too many people in jail anyway! Stop putting everyone in jail, then there will be enough money for food!

What? Just to save money? Crazy. Maybe the pay to prison guards should be cut, or maybe cut the pay to government officals.

Humans have certain nutritional needs. Getting to eat twice a day is not likely to meet those needs. If it's budgetary then work them an extra hour a day in the fields. There are way better solutions than this.

I am signing this petition because it is inhumane to not feed a prisoner three square meals a day. We do learn from our mistakes and I am sure our prisoners have as well. Does Texas have Good Time in their prison system? If not do they realize how much money the state could save by releasing all none violante criminals, such as Petty Drug Crimes and shit like that!
