Girl Scout camps have been a fundamental part of Girl Scouting since the organization was founded one hundred years ago. Millions of girls and women have benefitted from the close association with nature, the comraderie of girls, and the strong values of Girl Scouting. Without a Girl Scout camp, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois will never have the joy of those experiences that only GIRL SCOUT camp can offer.

Good news! The GSEIWI Council decided this morning to cancel the vote on the sale of the four camps! You can read the official announcement at: http://girlscoutstoday.org/media/2013/03/Press-Release-3-27-13.pdf

This is wonderful! At the same time, however, the future of the camps is far from assured, and the GSEIWI Board will consider new recommendations about the properties. The SOS CAMPS!/Save our Scout Camps coalition will continue to work to encourage preservation of all four camps and is already offering ideas, proposals, along with our general willingness to help in many different ways.

Thank you all for signing the petition and for being good friends of Girl Scouting. Your voice has been heard and has made a huge difference!

      Thank you!

      Yours in Girl Scouting,
      Joni

Thanks to all who have signed this petition! Many people are working together to save our Girl Scout camps. Here is another, VERY IMPORTANT way to help: If you are a registered member of the Girl Scouts in the Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois council and are age 14 or over, please sign a different petition--"Request to Change the By-Laws" that you can download at http://saveourgirlscoutcamps.weebly.com/. If we can get 10% of the voting-eligible members to sign this we can get a vote on the camp sale issue. You need to send a hard copy of that signed petition ballot or scan it and email it to the address listed at the bottom of that sheet. Do it today! Time is of the essence if we are to make a difference! Thank you! Yours in Girl Scouting...

My daughter is a Girl Scout in Alabama, where our State GS Council has already sold most of our camps, without any feedback or approval sought from the Girl Scouts themselves OR their parents. Stop this travesty of justice, foresight and common sense! Once these camps are gone, the Girl Scouts will never be able to afford to re-buy them, and would-be donors will give their land and money to organizations that will value and conserve them.

Selling camps should be a last resort when all other options to meet financial obligations are exhausted. And then only when the entire membership fo the council, girls, volunteers and parents are informed of the circumstances and have had an opportunity to voice concerns or support. Inform and content. That is the only way to morally sell camps.

We need to support our Girl Scout sisters across the country to save their camps. They are National Treasures!

Camp was an important experience in my development and if it were out of state, I'm sure i wouldn't have gone.

My 9-1/2 yr old granddaughter absolutely LOVES Girl Scouts. The camps offer opportunities they can't get other places.
