LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Local 11-637 of the American Federation of Musicians, and the Louisville Orchestra Inc. (LOI - the management), recently signed an agreement, ending a lockout of workers from their jobs that began in May 2011. Get behind the music.

The Louisville Orchestra Musicians, the Orchestra Board of Directors, and orchestra management should agree to binding recommendations by a mutually agreeable, nationally recognized orchestra professional.

Both management and musicians need to work together to build a stronger, more viable, orchestra for the future of Kentucky. We owe this to the thousands of donors, our community, and the taxpayers of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The community calls upon the Louisville Orchestra Board of Directors to stop negotiating solely through their attorney, and ask that they sit down with the musicians to resolve their dispute and bring the music back to Louisville.

I have been a member of the Federation since the late 50's and have seen this happen som many times, always to the detriment of the orchestra, the acceptance by the public, and the overall bad results when the orchestra is not professional in management or performance.

Most major cities have orchestras and symphonies. The Louisville Orchestra has been a staple for the Louisville, Kentucky and surrounding southern Indiana metro areas for decades.

The Louisville Orchestra exemplifies skilled, experienced, hard-working musicians who dedicate their lives to what makes the world go around — beautiful music.

Let's do all we can to keep them here.

      Sincerely,

      Jeff Emerson
