Garland Police Deparment Policy Change: Run Dash-Camera's 24/7 to Prevent Doubt in Accidental Deaths.."

    1. Petition by

      Darryl Chandler

      mesquite, TX

My Brother (Chris Chandler) was in a Coma with severe Brain Damage from 8-9-12 and on 8-15-12 he passed away at 8:14am and His Friend (Daniel Melrose) Is Dead after a traffic Violation turned into a high speed chase on Aug. 9th at 1:30am. The police have no evidence to prove that the illegal lane change occurred but take no responsibility for the loss of life and horrible injuries. The Garland Police Rep. Joe Hurn Stated to The Press That both men had past criminal history and they where searching thru the debris for incriminating evidence. No Mention of it being a tragedy or feel that this should never happen again over a traffic violation. Daniel Melrose had died on his way to the hospital and had a child to be born in just a couple of weeks from the accident. Now the child will never know his father.

I ask you to sign this petition to help me not let this happen again.
All I ask is to have the Dash-cam on the whole shift instead of only when the lights are on. It will relieve the police of any doubts of misconduct and give the families more comfort that the officers did everything in their power to follow procedure when a major accident like this occurs. I believe the lose of life out weighs the traffic violation.

In Texas we also have red light cameras that take a picture of the license plate of the car that commits the traffic violation and sends a ticket in the mail. I don't see why when danger to human life is greater than violation to the law than this should be implemented as-well.

Thank you all in advance for not letting this loss of life and great injuries not be in vain and stop future accidents from occurring.

Any time there is a life lost it is a tragedy. But when people treat it as these officers did is just wrong.
