Francisco Receives Humanitarian Parole from ICE and Reunites with His Family

    1. Petition by

      California Dream Network

UPDATE (December 8th, 2011):

Thank you everyone for your support. Francisco's attorney, Meredith Brown, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, and the CA Dream Network worked really hard to expose ICE's lies and get Francisco back to the US. Francisco Cortez Lopez was able to walk free yesterday, December 7th, and return to his family after immigration attorney Meredith Brown with the support of Congressman Adam Schiff and CHIRLA obtained a humanitarian parole by ICE. Francisco Cortez Lopes, a 43 year-old Pasadena resident, is a loving, hard-working father of three children who are US Citizens (16 years, 6 years, and 4 years). Francisco suffers from diabetes and kidney failure and has been undergoing dialysis treatments twice a week since September 5, 2011. He is in line to qualify for a kidney transplant in six months.

In 1996, Francisco went to a notary and was told he would qualify for asylum. He received a temporary worker’s permit for a year. Later that year, the notary was reportedly arrested and charged with filing fraudulent immigration paperwork. Francisco sought another attorney’s help who never followed up with the case. In the meantime, a deportation order was issued but Francisco never received it or knew about it.

On Tuesday, November 15, ICE came in the early hours “looking for someone else” and duped Francisco’s wife, Teresa, giving them information about her husband’s immigration status. Francisco ended up being detained, still wearing pajamas, and amazingly deported to Tijuana, Mexico within six hours.

What is most puzzling is that both Francisco and his life partner told ICE repeatedly that he was ill, needing of medical treatment, and undergoing dialysis treatment. ICE completely ignored the family pleas to act with compassion and based on humanitarian reasons, stop Francisco’s deportation.

Francisco is currently housed at Casa Del Inmigrante in Tijuana desperately seeking medical treatment. So far he has missed two dialysis sessions. Teresa fears for his life.

Teresa was laid off in March and now works cleaning houses. Francisco has been an exemplary employee until the day he was taken by ICE.

(CALL TO ACTION) We humbly urge you to sign the petition as a show of support for Francisco's cause. Please share and urge your friends, family, and co-workers to sign the petition. You can also call the following people and urge them to let Francisco Cortez Lopez come back home:

I heard in the News last night that Mr. Cortez will be receiving a Humanitarian Visa. I am overjoyed for his entire family. I thank the U.S. Government for acting promptly as this case is of a critical nature. Mr Cortez needs to return to the U.S. STAT to continue his lifesaving treatment.

I am hoping that my injured husband who has been detained by ICE for 6 months now gets to be released soon and that with his release our family is given one of the best reasons to celebrate the Holidays as a complete family as well.

Congratulations Cortez Family and Good Luck on the kidney transplant process. Take Care

Francisco Cortez Lopez should have the right to come back home. He came to the United States to start a better life for himself and his family. Francisco being detained and deported was not the corret thing to do for he needs his treatment to live and taking that from him is taking a father away from his kids. he has the right to be in the united states for the only crime he commited was wanting a better future for his family and a better education.

Francisco's U.S. born children don't have to live their lives worrying about the health status and safety of their father, this family needs to be made whole again. Please give Mr. Cortez a Humanitarian Visa thus giving his children peace of mind and allow them to enjoy their father's presence in their lives once again.
