Hi, everyone, I am putting out a major plea for a wonderful Humane Society that is truly a NO-KILL.... their donations are WAY DOWN, and they have taken in more dogs over the last few months than ever. They have not gotten the level of financial help that they have in past years, and now it is possible that we could lose them. They have not held a board meeting on this subject yet, but I am told it is a possibility that they could have to shut their doors. This would be a major tragedy!!! They have helped save dogs all over Florida, and work tirelessly to find them homes. Please, please, donate what you can to help them. I will attach their website here. If you donate directly it goes to help the animals in the shelter in Hollister, and if you post a note that you want your donation to help the animals from Pasco, Sebring, and Hillsborough, it will go towards helping them. Remember it is tax deductible and remember that without all of us, they can't keep helping..... I hope that many of you will help in whatever way you can.

    2. Here's what humane shelters do for unwanted while kill shelters don't!

Unlike kill shelters, like Pasco County, Florida, here's an example of what Humane Shelter's do for stray and abandoned dogs. They take them off the streets without owners or families and they provide medical care when they need it. Here's a dog that needs a hand and the shelter needs funding to support medical care, or this dog will lose the leg they are desperately trying to save. Why? Because finding a home for a four legged animal is hard, but finding one for a three legged one? Even harder. We don't want these pets to remain in the shelter for life; that's not the goal. Our goal is help them to find homes and we do not want to kill them because it's too hard-expensive, but we cannot do it alone. We need your help. Won't you chip in? Even a dollar helps these poor creatures. See the link below and follow your heart. http://www.change.org/petitions/rescue-dog-needs-chip-in-for-medical-on-her-leg

THE HUMANE SHELTER CARES FOR YOUR PETS THROUGH DONATIONS AND THE WORK OF VOLUNTEERS UNTIL THEY ARE REHOMED. THEY ARE PROVIDED WITH CARE, FOOD, WATER, ATTENTION, MEDICAL CARE -- UNTIL THEY ARE REHOMED -- WHILE THE KILL SHELTER LOCATED IN PUTNAM COUNTY TERMINATES PERFECTLY HEALTHY PETS, TARGETS PITBULLS, AND DOES NOT PROVIDE THE SAME LEVEL OF CONCERN AS THE HUMANE SOCIETY. AND YET? WE WORK TO SAVE THEM ALL. PLEASE CONSIDER BOTH SHELTERS WHEN SEEKING YOUR FUTURE COMPANION. FOLLOW THE KILL SHELTER LINK, AND SEE WHERE THEY USE WORDS LIKE URGENT... URGENT BECAUSE TIME IS RUNNING OUT ON THEM...THEY ONLY LEAVE THE KILL SHELTER IF THEY ARE DEAD OR ADOPTED.. CAN YOU HELP? CONSIDER PROVIDING A HOME TO A FUR FRIEND: http://afurryfriend.wordpress.com/2008/11/21/palatkaputnam-county-fl-desperate-dogs-cats-puppies-and-kittens-lo

PUTNAM COUNTY ALLOWED AN ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER TO RESIGN - RATHER THAN PROSECUTE FOR NEGLIGENCE THAT LED TO THE DEATH OF 6 ANIMALS. THEY DIED PAINFULLY, SLOWLY, IN CAGES, WITHOUT WATER, OR FOOD. HERE, WE ARE TRYING TO KEEP THE NO KILL SHELTER OPEN WHERE THEY RECEIVE CARE UNTIL A HOME IS FOUND FOR THEM - PLEASE - FOLLOW THIS LINK: http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2011-11-10/story/putnam-animal-control-officer-resigns-after-dogs-left-cages-weeks-die -- AND CONSIDER THE REAL ALTERNATIVES WHEN YOU ALLOW GOVERNMENT SHELTERS AND THEIR STAFF TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PETS. PLEASE DONATE... EVEN A $1.00 TO THE RESCUE GROUP THAT CARES FOR YOUR PETS UNTIL THEY ARE REHOMED....FOR LIFE...

A Putnam County animal control officer resigned Oct. 31 after six dogs were found dead in cages where the owner left them to be picked up.

Officer Amanda Holiman was told on Sept. 26 to pick up six Chihuahuas and a Jack Russell terrier that were in three cages outside a residence in Interlachen Lakes Estates. Jeffrey Millican told an animal control employee he was being evicted and had lost his job so was moving. He called back the next day to say his dogs were still there and he was leaving.

On Oct. 23, a friend of the animals' owner went to Millican's house and found six of the dogs dead and decomposing in the cages. One Chihuahua was still alive though emaciated and severely dehydrated, according to a Putnam County Sheriff's Office report.

It was taken to the animal control facility for care.

Holiman was interviewed by Maj. Dwight Parker of the Sheriff's Office, which oversees the animal control division. Holiman said she had driven by the residence but did not stop.
