Florida State Legislature: Stop Data Collection on Our Children Through Common Core Standards

EDUCATION IN PERIL

Collecting personalized information on both behavioral and academic criteria on our children and making that data available to federal, state and outside contractors is a serious breach of expectations of privacy and the law. If the experience of other states is a guideline, Florida will face expensive implementation and lawsuits over passage of bills currently in our legislature on COMMON CORE. Once parents find out that their child's data will be collected without their permission, there will also be an enormous backlash against elected officials who favor invasion of child and family privacy and the promotion of COMMON CORE.

I am a vocal teacher opponent who is now facing loss of my entire career for not cooperating fully under the new models. I work with under served, Title I, ESE, ELL, At-Risk for Dropout and the new observations require "collaboration," constantly, creating chaos for students who need peace and calm to learn. The expectation that 4 students with a 4th grade reading level work together to analyze primary source old English documents with a packet to discuss amongst each other is very nice, but without the needed reading skills not very likely. I have been devalued for allowing to much time at the beginning of class for my students to settle in, many of which were ADD/ADHD, and have severe disciplinary problems. There is nothing for them to grade me on if the students are quietly reading, and they are expected to read documents above their capability in too short of a time for their ability level. The evaluators would just stare while they were reading and then mark me down because I had to hurry up the lesson to fit their rubric design and what they wanted to see. It's a shame that peace, and I don't mean the kind that is forced compliant, but with the right relationship with your students, actual quiet for longer periods of time out of willingness to learn is observed as bad teaching.

Common Core is no different than NCLB, it not only groups children, it's curriculum is outlandish and strays away from consistency. It is also burdoning children so much, that they have no time to be children anymore.

It's time for this to go, and I will NOT vote for anyone that supports this system... period

That our posterity continue to live in a great republic where rights are recognized as coming from God and not the State.

American Educator & Learning Specialist who knows what educational standards and education need for students to be empowered to achieve more than the common core indoctrination, confusion, and machine driven binary work.
