Fired for Teaching about Trayvon: Re-Hire Brooke Harris at Pontiac Academy for Excellence

    1. Petition by

      Teaching Tolerance

Brooke Harris was fired from the Pontiac Academy for Excellence in Michigan after helping her students organize a fundraiser for Trayvon Martin’s family.

She knew how important it is to give students opportunities to bring real-world experiences into the classroom. Her mainly African-American students wanted to know more about Trayvon Martin’s death, and Ms. Harris seized the teachable moment.

Stories like Brooke’s are outrageous in their own right, but even worse, they create an atmosphere of fear that hobbles our best teachers.

Sign the petition and tell administrators we will not tolerate the silencing of our nation’s best teachers.

The American Dream is dead. All will be fired including the top administrators who dare suggest people of color, immigrants, gays, marijuana smokers, muslims, atheists, or protestors and activists of any kind are actually valued members of society.

This is what an "excellent" education looks like? Teachers being scared to engage their students in a meaningful way shouldn't fear political reprisal.

With liberty & justice for all. Isn't that what we Americans believe in? Isn't that one of our core values? Or are we still racists, we just don't want to admit it. No one would have objected or been fired if the young man who was killed was white. And just in case you are wondering, I'm white.

This is appalling..and they talk about social justice like they know what it stands for..! I feel very strongly about how the 'authorities' try to drown people's voices..
