When Change.org members heard that Fiat and Lacoste were printing ads in a magazine publishing rape threats, hundreds of us took action. After a massive social media, press and adbusting campaign, both companies have promised not to advertise there again!

This is, of course, only the beginning, and there will be lots of follow up needed to get the journalist who actually made the rape threat fired. Please join in!

On March 3, 2011, Argentinean news publication El Guardián published an article written by journalist Juan Terranova that discussed a local activist's work with Hollaback International and contained racist, homophobic, and sexist remarks.

The original version of the article remains unedited on Terranova's blog with the final sentence expressing his desire to meet the Buenos Aires Hollaback representative and rape her in the ass.

El Guardián's moral responsibility to its readers and the Buenos Aires community does not leave room for association with journalists of low caliber like Terranova and his hateful, violent, inflammatory writings. But El Guardián has not responded to our calls demanding the resignation of Juan Terranova. Therefore, we are calling on advertisers in El Guardián to stop supporting a publication that employs Juan Terranova.

It is a shame! It horrifies human being! It is offensive for women and men both, because it offends everi one. Threats mustn't find ani space in a newspaper nor wherever. It causes a lot of troubles because information goes all over the world!Shame!

      Dear Lacoste,

I enjoy your brand and I wear your scent every day, I've done so for years, but I feel so strongly about this that I would be willing to release my brand loyalty and boycott Locoste if you do not use your influence to address this issue.

It is simply not acceptable to advertise in a publication that promotes this kind of violent racist, homophobic, and sexist attitudes, anywhere in the world period.

Civil Society is asking you to do the right thing, please demonstrate your social and corporate responsibility by withholding advertising, and affirm responsible journalism.

      Respectfully,

      Terrence Syvenky
