I am a 22 year old, college student and new mother. Last August my mom passed away unexpectedly at the age of 44. I was living with her as I worked on my degree. I have been living in our house since then and have been working with a realtor to buy my home. There is no "how to" manual on this unique situation so I've been doing as much as I knew to do. The plan was to put the house on the market as a short sale so I could buy it with the life insurance money. Now I am being evicted from the house and according to the attorney that is representing Fannie Mae at the eviction hearing my only option is to pay off the mortgage in full with cash. I do not have that kind of money, nor is the house worth the amount they are asking for. I just want Fannie Mae to recognize that this is a unique situation, and the cookie cutter processes should not apply. I want to buy the house, that is one less house they have to hassle with. Please help me to keep my childhood home and be able to raise my newborn. This is the only please I have to remember my mother and to be able to share that with my son is all I want to do! Please help!

We were told by the lawyer that we have to be out of the house by October 31st. They refuse to make an exception for our circumstance. It is a HUD home and cannot be purchased until it is vacant and put on the market. So ultimately we will have to move 17 years worth of stuff out just to turn around and buy the house to move back in. I wish they would just be understanding and let us just buy it. They are capable of making an exception they just won't, probably because they will lose government money on the house.

This is important to me because so many corporations are in for themselves. As a single parent, I understand how difficult it is to go to school and parent and work. It is next to impossible and those who do it should be recognized for their efforts to better themselves and not just suck off society. If it had not been for my parents helping me with my own housing, I would have no where to live. Fannie Mae, I urge you to work with this fellow student and offer her options other than cash payment in full. She has enough on her plate and does not need the added stress of a greedy corporation. Working with this individual will not only gain the trust and respect of this one student, but the trust and respect of a university; which holds MANY future home owners that you may want to finance down the road. Knowing Fannie Mae is a corporation that is compassionate and willing to work with individuals in tough and unique circumstances is an asset to your business. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Lorelei Strong

As a single mother, struggling to support her own children, I can relate to her dilemma. I support Casie and hope that this petition will not only help her, but single parents throughout the United States.
