Families, politicians push for improvements at Evergreen Cemetery

A woman carrying a bucket walks back and forth between a rusty water faucet and her mother-in-law's grave. She throws water on the plot, which is the only green area surrounded by acres of brown. Leslie Letrán waters the grave because cemetery workers don't. "We come at least twice a month to water," she says.

I talked to the investigator who was working on my case and others. I don't know what the outcome will be but I won't give up no matter what!! I was told but the investigator the landscape looks nice & there isn't any trash. My response was that may be so but my Mother's grave shouldn't look like a construction site. Keep the calls and letters going everyone Thank you!!

Grass makes a comeback at Boyle Heights cemetery

The grounds at Evergreen Cemetery are looking less parched these days and County Supervisor Gloria Molina is taking credit for the greening up of the 136-year-old Boyle Heights cemetery. Molina in November began to put public pressure on the operators of Evergreen to repair irrigation systems and restore the grass that had dried up across most of the grounds.

L.A. County supervisor sees red over unkempt Evergreen Cemetery

LOS ANGELES >> Those who visited their loved ones buried at the historic Evergreen Cemetery over the holiday may have noticed the graveyard is not living up to its name. The grass is closer to shades of yellow or brown rather than green.

My daughter's father, grandfather and great grandmother are buried there and the grounds look terrible, there is no grass and what there is, is all dried up or weeds sticking out of the dirt. I know that we are in a drought but they never water the whole place and their sprinkler system needs to be upgraded. This place is a big landmark in East LA and it should look beautiful like the other cemeteries that are around and much bigger and are also more greener.

My reason for signing this petition is because I am a resident here two blocks from the site. I drive by everyday with my 5year old son which thinks the cemetery is scary and he says, "it's like Halloween mommy." He never even wants to look that way. How can I explain to a five year old that when people pass away they lay to rest at a place like that? It scares him,he thinks when you die that you go to a scary place! Also, I love East Los Angeles but I hate to admit we live among ignorant people that like to trash our city..all around us it's ugly, is the cemetery there to match the city? We are better than this, this community needs a wake up call and so does Mr. Tony Soo Hoo!!! my loved ones are at a green peacefull beautiful cemetery, but reading this petition that a customer handed me made me feel bad for people that do have to visit this scary horrid place. We have people jogging the path every day & night and I alway think to myself ..." those people are brave because no way would I run in the dark in that scary path!"..... I hope this petition goes through.

      Sincerely, Dee Dee

my Mom is there & it seems that burials predating early 1900's do not get the same attention as more recent burials.
