PETITION TO END THE RESTRICTED DOG BREED REGULATIONS IN WA LAWS
To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.
We, the undersigned, respectfully oppose any Breed Specific Regulations or Legislation in the West Australian Dog Act. We, the undersigned, believe all dog breeds should be managed under one complete dog law, in WA.
We, the undersigned, ask the Legislative Assembly to abolish any Dog Breed restrictions current and proposed for WA Dog Laws; to introduce mandatory training, socialisation, and ownership regulations for all domesticated dog breeds; and introduce an accurate system to deem individual dogs “dangerous” where by the behaviour and actions of the dog is the result of the judgement “dangerous”, and not the breeding of the animal.

Puppy Raising and Training Diary For Dummies by Sarah Hodgson (qualified dog trainer) 2002

      "Never Blame The Pup
Beleive it or not, puppies [and dogs] dont act out of spite. Your puppy's bahaviour is directly related to your reactions. A dog repeats what ever gets attention. The first step to becoming a good dog trainer is to stop blaming the dog."

Still dont know how they still blame the dogs for their behaviour.... Its irresponsible owners who make this seem hard. Its not hard, spend the time enforcing positive behaviour in your dog and you should have no worries. Lock your dog in the yard for weeks at a time, then wonder why he's so excited? Or perhaps aggressive?? ITS YOUR FAULT HE'S ACTING THIS WAY.

    9. Why they need us to fight for their rights...

      Ashleigh Leece
      Petition Organizer

From the 2nd Edition "Dog Bible" Edited By Kristin Mehus-Roe 2009 Preface:

"Having a dog is equal parts play and work- and your family, friends, vet, trainer, groomer and pet sitter are all apart of the team that will make your friendship with your dog a valuable and long-lived experience."

      Page 21:

"whether they decended from wolves or share another common ancestor, dogs differ greatly from wild animals. Dogs are domesticated, trainable creatures who depend on us for their survival."

We need to continue to voice their rights. Whether our request to end the BSL will happen this Sept, or later on, it will happen. If we continue to voice the truth, an honest ear will eventually act upon our push for egalitarianism.

      Our dogs need us.

    10. Why Certain Dogs are Seen Differently by the Laws...

      Ashleigh Leece
      Petition Organizer

From the 2nd Edition "Dog Bible" Edited By Kristin Mehus-Roe 2009 page 59:

"The injustice of this legislation [BSL] is obvious to those who know and love the breed being banned. Certain breeds of dog are not inherently bad. Certain breeds of dog fall victim to the whims of people who breed and train the dogs to be vicious.
People who love and know dogs are fighting to eliminate breed bans, instead insisting that each individual dog be judged on his or her behavior."

Stop bullying our dogs! Make the laws fair for all breeds. Give them all a fair system to be deemed dangerous on individual cases only. Blanketing whole breeds will only make more work for authorities to control and monitor in the community. Lets get real on this issue.

    11. Some more evidence from the experts...

      Ashleigh Leece
      Petition Organizer

From the 2nd Edition "Dog Bible" Edited By Kristin Mehus-Roe 2009 page 48- 49:

"all breeds are capable of biting. And although larger, stronger dogs are capable of inflicting more severe bites than smaller dogs are, its not the type of dog that leads to severe attacks but rather the training and treatment that the dog receives"

Hmmm... I didnt think it was rocket science!! Its common sense!!

MAKE THE LAWS FAIR FOR ALL DOGS

    12. Proof From Expert Reading Material

      Ashleigh Leece
      Petition Organizer

From the 2nd Edition "Dog Bible" Edited By Kristin Mehus-Roe 2009 page 25-26:

"Domesticated dogs are members of the species Canis familiaris. Even breeds that look very different from each other, are essentially the same type of animal. In fact, if dogs of ten different breeds were left to breed unchecked for several generations, the resulting dogs would look basically the same"

So why does West Australian Laws separate our dogs by their looks, and only deem certain breeds to be dangerous? They are all dogs, all have teeth, and all require training and socialisation to avoid behaviour problems. Responsible owners know this to be fact, and all dog reading material support this fact strongly.

I need your support now, more than ever!!!
September 1st is when they hope the new bill will be ready for the nation. They want to make laws tougher around dog ownership- which is great- but they are also going to get tougher on "restricted Breeds".

      We need West Australian support.
      Please keep signing and sharing.

I want now 5000 signatures from Western Australians. It may seem like a long shot- But since I have been critisized for not making this go viral yet, 5000 seems still like nothing.

      Our opinion matters.
      Keep being respectful, and diplomatic.

Lets end the BSL in WA. Before it gets any worse :(

      15 August 2012 - General News

Minister for Local Government, Hon. John Castrilli, has introduced the Dog Amendment Bill to Parliament.

The Bill makes significant amendments to the Dog Act 1976 to improve community safety and enable better management of barking dog complaints.
      The key amendments include:

      Improving community safety through increased controls over dangerous dogs, including restricted dog breeds, and higher penalties encouraging more responsible dog ownership;
      Enabling nuisance dogs, including nuisance barking dogs, to be more effectively dealt with;
Recognition of assistance dogs as an extension of the guide dog provisions; and
Meeting changing community expectations in areas such as microchipping, lifetime dog registrations and impounding provisions.

      PLEASE KEEP SHARING MY PETITION!

I have had a very reassuring call from the office of Minister Castrilli, WA department for Local Community. I have not been confirmed the end of the BSL in WA, however, the very respectful man from the office advised me a new bill was in the process of debate and review in regards to the State and National dog acts.

I have been advised to engage more local and state support for this issue. I have understood that my petition has become an interest, especially to those I hoped would receive the message. I have made a personal promise to my state, especially my supporters, that I will not let this request for change go unheard. In fact I have caused enough attention that I have now opted to personally collect your signatures, and then deliver them in one package to those in power to listen and act.

Keep sharing and spreading the message of responsible dog ownership. We need more support from Western Australia- Any help would be great!! Guys- this is good, reassuring news!! Lets go!

In a landmark move by the state of Massachusetts, animal advocates everywhere are celebrating a major win: the ban of gas chambers as a method of euthanizing dogs and cats, and the ban of breed specific legislation.

Thanks to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Advocacy team and countless animal welfare advocates, veterinarians, dog owners, animal control officers and officials, a new animal control bill was introduced and passed.

Bill S.2192, “An Act Further Regulating Animal Control”, prohibits inhumane methods as a way of euthanizing shelter animals who are deemed unadoptable, which includes the gas chamber, one of the most horrific ways for an animal to die.

The bill further “improves the dangerous dog law in a breed neutral manner”, meaning no breed of dog can be prohibited anywhere in the state of Massachusetts, ending breed specific legislation.

I received an emailed official registered letter from Minister Castrilli today.

I still have some questions to ask. I dont fully understand their political jargon. Im not sure if the BSL is over in WA yet...

"I have made recent media statements confirming my intention to introduce amendments to the Dog Act 1976, which will enhance responsible dog ownership and hold dog owners more accountable for their dogs behaviour and actions. these amendments will apply to all dog owners.
"Furthermore, I intend to ensure owners of dangerous dogs, irrespective of the breed, adopt measures to ensure community safety.
"Some of the administrative measuresI intend to introduce include providing local government rangers to issue infringement notices for minor offences. For serious offences, provisions will be made to enable the courts to ban a person from owning a dog and for the dog to complete an approved dog handling and training course."

This is important to me because I own a Rottweiler. He is the most non aggressive dog I have ever met. He is a year and a half now and still shows no signs of any aggression.

The breeds being targeted (especially German Shepard's and American Pit Bulls are beautiful and LOVING dogs. They are remarkable service dogs! Instead of killing innocent animals and destroying the hearts of the family members that love them… EDUCATE the needs of each breed and ENCOURAGE obedience courses for ALL breeds. My piddy, Kitty, is a loving and gentile family and service dog who provides therapy for my autistic son, my daughter with PTSD, and is a diabetic alert dog (in training) for me. Just because you, as law makers, are ignorant (and clearly you are if you support this BSL law movement) then educate yourselves about the true statistics… write me… contact me… and meet our Kitty. He is no exception… he is a TRUE statistic about the Pit Bull breed. The dogs that are RAISED to be mean and aggressive are the exceptions. Pit Bulls are also called nanny dogs… meet our Kitty and you will quickly learn why. I can PROMISE you… it's not because he's vicious and dangerous with anyone especially kids. Punish the deed… not the breed!

I have a breed of dog people have has bad reputation but people couldn't be more wrong. She is loving and loyal. She only wants to make us happy. Why should she be judged by breed and not by nature? Before her I had another dog of this breed and she was even softer. She was a rescue and had been very badly mistreated by people but yet she still had nothing but love for us. Was a best friend for me growing up and couldn't be anymore gentle with my nephews and nieces is she tried. They pulled her ears, pulled her tail and never once showed ANY sign of aggression. Judge a dog on its own behaviour, not its breed!!! Bring a dog up right (ANY BREED) and it will show nothing but love.
