Services will be disrupted, or possibly eliminated for thousands of children who have these diagnoses. These type of children CANNOT deal with disruption in their lives. If there were not therapies--occupational, speech, physical---for these children, they would NOT be high-functioning, which is what will happen to them when the insurance companies take away the right for them to continue because their diangnosis will "change" under the DSMV. The change would put all three diagnoses under one category-autism spectrum disorder- ELIMINATING Asperger syndrome and P.D.D.-N.O.S. from the manual. This would be devastating as well as life-changing to those who have been diagnosed with these syndromes. Please sign and share and don't let them take away their rights to have services, which is ultimately what will happen if this is changed.

I am an adult with Asperger's - and this will make my life so much harder if you do this - if you make Asperger's part of Autism but then narrow the definition of Autism, you might as well say you're doing away with the diagnosis of Asperger's! One of my granddaughter's may have it - you will hurt her in her in her task of threading the maze of going through school and life. I went through school without a diagnosis, and not having the support and condition-specific guidance for career hurt me more than you can know. I was never able to find a job that worked for me: i repeatedly got fired or had to quite because i heard i would be fired. This was usually through the efforts of co-workers who found my oddness "annoying" - the word they usually used, but sometimes because i was not able to parse commands, having auditory processing issues. Meltdowns on the job hurt me as well. I was never able to have a relationship where i was not being abused, because i couldn't tell if someone didn't have my best interests at heart. Students with Asperger's need guidance to succeed in life! If you take away the diagnosis of Asperger's, you will take away that guidance!

Children with these conditions should be able to receive the therapy they need. Otherwise, the state will have to pay anyway.
