Please re-instate Dr. Patricia Prechter as Chair of the Department of Nursing and Allied Health

    1. Petition by

      Kelsea Bice

Dr. Patricia Prechter has been a part of the OLHCC community since 1982. She has served many roles such as faculty in Pediatrics, Health Assessment, and Preparation for Professional Practice, as well as Dean of the Department of Allied Health and Nursing, Interim Provost, and Provost. Also, she facilitating writing the Nursing Program at OLHCC. She has taught all levels in the nursing department, meaning she touches each student that comes through the department. Preparation for Professional Practice is a senior level nursing course that Dr. Patricia Prechter is the coordinator of, which assists nursing students as they begin for their initial licensure exam. Through this course and other efforts coordinated by Dr. Prechter, OLHCC has achieved 100% passing rate for the nursing licensure exam, NCLEX.

Dr. Prechter is also the heart and soul of the OLHCC community. She maintains an "open door" policy that allows students to approach her with their needs as they arise. She is a student advocate for not only the students in the nursing department, but also for students throughout the OLHCC community. Without her presence at OLHCC, the successful progression of all students would be detrimental for years to come.

By signing this petition, we are making a statement in support of Dr. Prechter's contuinued presence on campus as the Dean of Allied Health and Nursing.

Dr. Prechter has made the nursing program at OLHCC the stellar program that it is through her dedication to her staff, students and vocation. She is an inspiration to those who have worked and studied under her.

I have worked with Pat since I started teaching at Charity Hospital School of Nursing. We were also at UM at the same time. I also taught at OLHCC in the early years of the program. I believe all who know Pat, know what true nursing professionalism is all about. She has been treated badly, but I am not surprised that OLHCC has done this. They have gotten away with treating others in an unprofessional way. It is shameful.

I'm happy to see Pat go. I have had the unfortunate experience of her "open door" policy - only useful for milking an abusing the information obtained with a mask of sincerity and concern. Her goodness superficial at best. Good riddance.
